This is our new project we are going to start

we were asked to select a festival of our own culture which is being celebrated in our family for generation so i am Punjabi after heard about this project to find a festival the first thing came to my mind was LOHRI because this is a very special festival where our whole family came together and celebrate .

LOHRI is a popular winter Punjabi folk festival celebrated primarily by Hindus , Sikhs Lohri is primarily celebrated every year on 13th January by Sikhs and Hindus mainly around a bonfire lit with wooden pieces and waste papers. The festival marks the end of the peak winter, the harvesting of the rabi crops and remembrance of sun god. This is a harvesting festival, Thus, Punjabi farmers start their financial year from the next day of lohri festival. The festival is celebrated with gur rewri, peanuts and popcorn as the primary edible product.

In my family we have been celebrating it for many years now. Whenever there is a new born child or a newly wedded couple in my family at the time of lohri, it is celebrated at an even larger scale.

My family celebrate this festival in very large scale

DAY - 1

Today was our first day we started with the culture project. With my selected festival

Today we made a well detailed mind map where I found answers to maximum of the questions that can be put with respect to the festival.

I worked upon the 5Ws and 1H i.e. what, when, where, who, why and how.

I noted all the questions with respect to the 5Ws and 1Hs that came to my mind then found the answers to them to an create an informative mind map with pictures about my festival 'LOHRI'

this was to to fun to create map

After done with our mind map we had a small discussion with our faculty and also saw others work and we were also worked with material and non material elements of cultures and festivals.

GLOSSARY

1. TANGABLE - MATERIAL

2. NON TANGABLE - NON MATERIAL

FUNCTIONAL OBJECT

I chose pen as my functional object . pen is something we use daily as an artist i use it for make darker line and to draw some thing and as well as pen is a common writing instrument used to apply ink to a surface

and pen is a tool i use to express something on paper

as historically reed pens , dip pens were used with a nib dipped in ink

DAY - 2

Day 2 started with our selected functional object i started with learning the object component of culture

Day started with very interesting video "god must be crazy" This video helped me to segregated thoughts for the activity

My selected object was pen and how we use it differently which clearly depicts even our method of using is different but our reasons are similar . we both have different use of pen

pen is usually seen as a very basic object but as an artist i use it differently from my mother . our different perspectives aries from our different goals and purposes

as an artist i use pen mostly for sketching , shading etc .. but my mother use it just for writing as a teacher she use it mostly in school for checking by this i got to know that we both are from same background but w have our different culture

CULTURE - A culture that's influenced by the different purpose we have in our life

In day - 2 we also got to know the concept of context , text and subtext

for me context is a part of the non - material component of the culture which is the situation or the background of the culture or an object. and the subtext is the subdivided part of non - material element, the feeling or the meaning which is associated to the context of the culture/ object . and the text is the subdivided part of the material component of the culture which is visible.

SEGREGATION BASED ON TEXT , SUBTEXT AND CONTEXT

HOME TASK

After knowing about the culture of our functional object we were asked to know more about other community for this we were dividing into group and giving us reading about Tuareg peoples community who lives in desert . it was really very interesting to know about there culture and community when i started research of there culture and community it was endless

DAY - 3

Today was full of group activities and interaction with peer working in group is very interesting . I really enjoyed working in group

For this activity we were asked to create mind map for this we first divided our domains and worked on them individually on the same miro board but individually on our domains then we combine our work

I worked on religion and rituals of the Tuareg community

INDIVIDUAL MIND MAP

GROUP MIND MAP

We also discussed the similarities and differences with the Tuareg and Rabari culture and community with our other peer and we also discussed about the individual and group insights

INDIVIDUAL INSIGHTS

1. In the Tuareg community women wear indigo burkhas

2. They are self dependent for there livelihood

3. Their rituals doesn't require special occasion rituals can take place even during the most mundane of days like their tea rituals .

4. They have a special connection with tea . They served there tea three time's first could be strong like love. Second bitter like life. Third sweet like death .

5. Tea served in any order depending on the pleasure or the mood of the officiator of the tea.

6. They are non - vegetarians but they only meat on special occasion like on wedding .

7. For them weddings are the huge ceremony .

GROUP INSIGHTS

Over all there is a great concept of text , context and subtext . How it help us to understand the reasons behind what happens in culture and why it happens .

NEW VOCABULARY

1. Visual organizer - Delivering more information

DAY - 4

Today we again work together in a group . in the today's activity we were talk about the concept of beauty (for me overall the concept of beauty was a very interesting subject)

Beauty of culture

The beauty of the culture is defined as the styles, products and people associated with beauty and the focus on physical appearance and aesthetics.

By the help of this i got more clarity on text, context and subtext by this i started to ask why and starting finding the answer of that question this really help me to gather more information about their culture

We looked into different area of the beauty of Tuareg people community

Then we also segregate the concept of beauty from our and their

The Reference list of our group :

DAY - 5

FINAL SUBMISSION

After exploring other community and their culture in the last of this project we explore our own culture and community As i learn there is something new and unique in every culture For me culture is not only festival but the culture is also our lifestyle which we follow This is my own culture and community Miro link- https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_kinko_8=/

PART – 2

Value and belief of three communities

 Friends community

 Social media community

 School community

Miro link - https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_kinko_8=/

Every culture and community has its own beauty every culture and community related to anything there are different types of components in culture So in my culture I have a various community and every community have their beliefs and values So being a part of social media community for me social media is a platform where we create new friends and contact with everyone this is the platform where I update people about my life. So the school is a very important place in everyone life this is the place where we start our journey and learn a lot of things like cooperation , partnership and respect which is very important things for everyone In the friends community friend is a person that you know and like (not a member of your family) and who likes you. A friend is someone who understands you, and if they don't, they try to.... A friend is somebody who is there for you when they can be, but also sets boundaries when they need to. Many things make someone a good friend, and the definition of what makes a true friendship differs from person to person and this is a place where no sorry no thank you accepted .

AGREEMENT AND DISAGREEMENT WITH THE BELIEFS

Social media is a platform where people get affected with some bad things because social media is a platform where good and bad things happen. This affected a lot to youngsters but if i see someone to use it negatively I try to stop that person .

CONFLICT AMONGST THE BELIEFS OF COMMUNITY

There are conflicts among the belief of two communities Which are school communities and friends communities these both community is commonly same because school is a place where we create new friends and connect with them . In school community we are required to stay disciplined where as in friends community we can behave the way we want to . In school community we are supposed to where a specific uniform given to us where as in friends community we can wear and do whatever we want . Through this project " culture and communities " I got to know so many new things the role of material non materials in community and so on.. Overall I had a great time exploring myself and my culture that I have been maintaining for a long time.
