REFLECTING WRITINGS

Design as socio-cultural phenomenon
Design seems to be simple and understandable but it is actually a wide term which keep changing from time to time and person to person and as well as design is different for every person which makes our habits modified naturally and timely we accept that.
Design of any product today depends on its past like why it started, how it started.
An object is invented when it is needed but later it modifies a lot like different shapes, sizes, and made from different varieties.
Social and cultural factors play a major role in the evolution of design of something that we see. Everything we see that have its several factors which take place
Social culture is mainly created by our society which changes day by day . It seems to me that rarely we consider the long term impact on our culture by the designs we design and this impact in our lifestyle like how a product changes our lifestyle and consultation totally changes. Lifestyle is a socio-cultural phenomena, as the lifestyle changes ,the design also changes as a socio-cultural phenomenon. Not only this object ,everything that we use in our day to day life which led us to believe that design changes as a socio-cultural phenomenon. Design as socio-cultural phenomenon

2B
In today’s life whatever object we have that has its own history and history tells us a lot about a product or an object that changes with time and will also change in future.
While going through the evolution of my object shampoo I observed a lot of things like how and why they started using shampoo. While researching a no. of questions came in my mind like what people used to use when shampoo didn’t invent and I asked to my grand mother and she tells a unexpected thing which I didn’t know before is that they made their shampoo at their home with some natural ingredients like with fee of the leaf's, eggs, soil etc.. As time grew they started using detergent, soap and laundry soap and then more different varieties came and people started using that.
Technology is something we all are blessed with and industrialization caught pace with it- With advancement of technology many new machines were formed, electricity was generated to run machines and product was made faster and it took less time to make more no. of products like shampoo in older times were handmade but today handles, ferrules are machine made. the evolution of object happened but most interestingly human civilization also evolved with the object. People adapt themselves as per need of nature, technology, demands.
Pre work (week-2)
Drawing assignment
Exact Proportions
Task 4 : Form Observation through Observational Drawings
Isometric drawings
Task 5 : Ergonomics Study
Asking my family to hold shampoo, it made me realize that how different people hold the shampoo bottle differently. Each of them have different style to hold it .
process of using shampoo (this is all how my sister use shampoo)
Blue area in contact with shampoo
Ergonomic Study through Making
Attempt 1
for the ergonomic study making i decided to make my model a bit different with others then i used the paper pulp Technik but after making it i was not much satisfy then i thought of making it with POP
Attempt 2
I was to happy after making this model with pop but it took my a lot of time and i also struggle a lot
Insights
1. shampoo seems to be very easy but actually its not that easy product.
2. Before selecting this particular brand bottle i thought it would be easy to make but when i starting observing it . it made me realize that every object have deep detailing like have sharp edges , soft corners etc.
3. making of model is not simple. it requires lots of patients.

Interacting with Users
Reflective Writings
Reflective Writing 3
Form of an object drive by the functional and emotional needs of its user.
For every user functionality of an object is very important. It help to understand the object more proficiently. Functional design of object meet the needs of user.
The form of object is depends on functional and emotional need of the user. Like my object shampoo forms in different ways like have cap or pushing shape which is comfortable to use that is a functionality of the object if shampoo bottle would be circular (like chik shampoo) it would not be comfortable to use. (shape) of the shampoo would be functional need of the user.
Every person have their different need for their product and its very important to understand the need of every user and made product with there needs.
Not only functional need but emotional needs of the user is also important to notice.
During my object study I got to know how people attached with there objects.
Taking about my user
The basic form of the object (of particular brand my user use) is cylindrical, opener cap , push or in small packets but needs of the user like gender, age for them the form changes colour changes, varieties changes to meet the need of the user but proper functionally too.
Thus the appropriate functional and emotional design of a product leads to its success.
REFLECTION-4
Factors that tells about aesthetics of an object
How we see touch, feel, smell, and heard object. While we purchase any object we notice a lot of things like its varieties, smell after seems these facilities we purchase anything. These are few of the factors which tells about aesthetics of an object
(certain factors which tells about aesthetics of object- color, material variety, smell etc.)
1. Color – color is first thing which attracts any consumers. Color should be proper balanced or contrast with other color. Color should also suits to the object effectively like if it is onion shampoo it would have pink or dark purple color. Color should have proper mix and proper balance to.
2. Smell – the object should smell properly so that anyone can use it comfortably
3. Presentation – I think presentation is must in designing like how you present your object and how you are presenting to attracts customer like object should be properly packaged with attractive colour and make a unique ways of packaging. This also makes it easier for the customer to locate the product in future.
Variety - product variety increases consumers' likelihood of finding a good match with their preferences and they are able to get a product according to budget also the demand depends on the variety of the product .

Realization 3
REFLECTION
User interaction
Interacting with user really helped a lot knowing about consumers behavior from where, how, why they use that product. Everyone have their own point of view of the object
This activity really connected me a lot with all the activities which I did
BENEFITS
1. It helps to understand user.
2. Information which we get from the user is always fresh
3. We can understand the generalized points.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Arrangement of events in chronological manner is important.
2. take notes while talking to note every information
3. Add visuals for better understanding.
4. Have patient while talking
5. Less text but understandable
6. Be good listener
OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING – 3D MODEL
Through observational drawing we see each and every part of object briefly and come to know about every single details of object
For 3d model making which material we used, shape and measurement of an object pays an important role. And deep detailing works matter in my object like all the curves and edges took my most of the time.
BENEFITS
1. It improves our drawing skills
2. It helps us observe minute details
3. It helps us make connections between different parts of an object
4. We can understand the external and internal structure of the object
Recommendations:
1. Try to understand material, measurements of an object.
2. Draw from real objects not photos
3. Use grids, guidelines and isometric grids to add 3 dimensionality
4. Keeps the outlines light
5. Cover every single detail while drawing and making.
Timeline
Timeline is the listing of events within a particular historical period arranged in order. Through timeline I not only understood how my chosen object was evolved through time but also understood how and why design of any product evolves through time, how the need of product changes through time, how industrialization, world war, advancement in technology took an important in design world over time.
Recommendations:
1. Use reliable sources
2. Arrangement of events in chronological manner is important.
3. Add visuals for better understanding.
4. Less text but understandable
5. Give credit
BENEFITS
1. We get to know the reason behind the present form of an object
2. We can understand the need for its existence
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY METHOD OF INQUARY
PRIMARY –
1. Writing of description of an object is primary method.
2. Measurements while observational drawing was primary method.
3. Interview during user object association is primary method
SECONDARY –
1. Evolution of object (timeline)-
All the information we collect through different sources is secondary
2. User interaction task – all the answer we got is secondary method
3. Understanding of making – 3d model making with deep detailing is secondary method
